Does Optimum give you a public IP? (CGNAT, static IP and server rules)

Short answer: Yes on standard home service, per customer reports: Optimum fiber and cable lines get a public dynamic IPv4. Static IPs aren't available on residential plans (Optimum's own FAQ); Optimum Business sells them from $20/month for 1 IP. What you may host depends on your speed tier.

Does Optimum use CGNAT?

Not on standard residential service, according to 2025 customer reports: home fiber and cable get a public dynamic IPv4, and CGNAT is limited to the outdoor hotspot service and possibly some acquired or apartment (MDU) systems. In the same thread an Optimum rep said residential customers get a dynamic IP from Optimum's DHCP servers, without saying whether it's public. No official statement found, so this is low confidence. The thread is cited on the Optimum ISP page.

Can you get a static IP?

Not at home. Optimum's FAQ says: "Static IPs are not available with residential Internet plans." Optimum Business rate cards (e.g. April 2026) list static IPs at $20/month for 1, $30 for 5, $55 for 13 and $75 for 29, with a qualifying Business Internet plan. Compare with other ISPs on static IP prices.

What the terms allow

What about IPv6?

Not verified yet. The checker shows whether IPv6 works on your line; if it does, tell us.

How to confirm on your line

  1. Follow how to tell if you're behind CGNAT: compare the router's WAN IP with your public IP.
  2. Forward a port and run the checker's port test. Its report sums up what you can host.
