Does Brightspeed give you a public IP? (CGNAT, static IP and servers)

Short answer: Yes, per customer reports: Brightspeed fiber gets a public IPv4, not CGNAT, so port forwarding works. Brightspeed is one of the few US ISPs that leases static IPs on home service (postpaid plans): $15/mo for one address plus a $75 one-time fee, or larger blocks. IPv6 is available, and its subscriber agreement allows personal or commercial servers. We haven't found an official Brightspeed statement on CGNAT, so that part is low confidence.

Does Brightspeed use CGNAT?

Customers say no: Brightspeed fiber lines get a public IPv4. We haven't found an official Brightspeed page on it. The reports are cited on the Brightspeed ISP page. DSL lines may differ; if you're on DSL, run the check below and tell us what you see.

How to confirm on your line

  1. Follow how to tell if you're behind CGNAT: compare the router's WAN IP with your public IP.
  2. Run the checker. Its port test checks a forwarded port from outside, and the report sums up what you can host.
