All ISPs / US Internet (USI Fiber)
Does US Internet (USI Fiber) use CGNAT?
Short answer: No. US Internet (USI Fiber) gives home customers a public IPv4 address, according to US Internet (USI Fiber)'s own documentation plus customer reports. Static IP: Business only (officially). There's no IPv6 to fall back on.
Can I self-host on US Internet (USI Fiber)?
Metronet bought USI in Sept 2025. Residential customers are moving to T-Mobile Fiber (Metronet residential lines default to CGNAT, see the Metronet page), so new accounts may not match USI's past practice. A 2024 customer report says residential service blocks SMTP and some other ports.
| CGNAT by default? | No Confidence: Medium: ISP hints or confirms part of it; the rest is customer reports. USI's own (now-redirected) support page implies a public IP. Ownership has changed since, so this may not hold for new T-Mobile Fiber accounts. USI's support page on gaming NAT referred to 'the public IP address we give' customers. (We read it through a search index; the page now redirects, so this is a hint, not a current statement.) NAT is a router function where it translates the public IP address we give them, into a private IP address the router hands out.

| Static IP | Business only (officially) USI's FAQ says static IPs are for business-class service. Customer reports (2017–2024) say USI added a single static IP to residential lines on request, sometimes free. Yes. Static IP Address assignments, for business class service only, are available upon request.
