Does Cox use CGNAT?
Short answer: Sometimes. Cox uses CGNAT on some plans or in some areas, according to customer reports (we found no official Cox statement). Customers report you can ask to be taken off CGNAT at no charge. Static IP: No (residential). IPv6 is available, so devices can still be reachable over IPv6.
Can I self-host on Cox?
As of 2026-10-16, cox.com pages say 'Cox is now Spectrum', and Cox's AUP and speed-disclosure URLs redirect to Spectrum's. Expect Cox facts to converge with Spectrum's.
| CGNAT by default? | Some plans/areas Confidence: Low: customer reports only; no official ISP statement found. Customer reports: some Cox areas (Las Vegas reported in 2026) moved customers to MAP-T, which shares IPv4 addresses by splitting ports, and the app's port forwarding stopped working. Others (2024) report a WAN IP that matches their public IP.

| Free opt-out? | Free opt-out Customer reports (2026): asking support to opt you out of MAP-T puts the line back on traditional dual-stack with a full IPv4. It may take escalation.

| IPv6 | Yes Cox staff (2018): IPv6 available to all residential customers except Fiber PON at the time. Dated.

| Typical upload | Up to 35 Mbps on the 1 Gig and 2 Gig cable plans. cox.com's shop page. cox.com now carries 'Cox is now Spectrum' branding, and Cox's speeds-disclosure URL redirects to Spectrum's, so tiers may be changing.
|
| Terms on running servers | Unclear As of 2026-10-16, cox.com's residential AUP URL redirects to the Spectrum Residential AUP, which has no explicit server ban. The older Cox AUP (copy in a court filing) banned servers. Which one applies to Cox customers today is not confirmed. (older Cox AUP) You may not operate, or allow others to operate, servers of any type or any other device, equipment, and/or software providing server-like functionality in connection with the Service, unless expressly authorized by Cox.
